  • Finally some real booty bass masters are coming in.

But with all the innovative dubstep stars of the UK, I wonder why they have to bring back Skream. But then I see that Bassnectar is back and it all make sense.
    • what are you talking aboot?!
BROTHER is THE booty shaking master and he*s been coming every year ;^)~
      • Wow, bummer. Same shit only less exciting. The trance stage line up is a joke. A complete joke. I hope whoever they put as the new director got all his friends to play because without a single decent trance headliner this stage is going to be lacking in original talent.

And the biggest headliner Pendulum. Who i respect to the 10X power are shit as a dj act. And they are known to dissapont outside the studio.

2006 was the best year for bookings. What has happened people?

        • "Wow, bummer. Same shit only less exciting. The trance stage line up is a joke. A complete joke."

Chances are, if you are saying this sort of thing, you have been too many times..
There are a lot of things to appreciate other than just the artists, I realise this is what you pay for and everything, but it's not everything..

I have seen and heard a lot of people talking negative about the lineup, (sure there are a lot of repeats, but also new and upcoming artists)
i.e. (Not enough [insert favorite genre here], this sucks) Skream's set last year was packed with people, probably warrants a return. Also I think in general the breaks sets are the most populated, so why wouldn't you have the majority of the sets appealing to the majority of the paying customers?

Don't get me wrong, there's ALWAYS going to be things to improve upon, but that doesn't mean it's not going to be a great time with friends in the sun.

I mean, chances are you are still going.. I don't think I can make it this year, and up until seeing the lineup, I didn't really want to go. But there are going to be some awesome sets from the bigger names, as well as some less known artists, and I already feel like I am going to be missing out.. Not to mention setting up camp with a huge posse and seeing friends that I usually only get a chance to see at Shambhala..

          Just an opinion.

I do appreciate shambhala WAY MORE than the artists..i appreciate the SITE..and the locals (like evil monkey and stage managers) who support it and evolve it as well........ i support the people who put a lot of energy into it. (GO JOSH S!!!).but usually they don;t get a good slot...ever...... because it is more important to have an international festival ....and look cool....maybe make some green.... than hire yer friends who shoveled human shit for the ewok viallage dome footings.....;)
            • growth is unavoidable ~ and why would you want to avoid it anyways?
i have so much love for the locals, especially their input into making
the festival what it is now... but i think it IS important to diversify the fest
              this way.
If it was just we locals and our scene, that'd feel pretty exclusive to the
people that come from so far to get involved and share the experience...

I guess it's all about finding a happy medium.
My opinion is that we're pretty damn close
but there's always room for improvement.

learn a little more every year.....
              • I think a lot of long time local djs (shasta, jitterbug, just b, contra, elfstyles, dion rego, pocahotass, levi, audio architect, and myself)-->who did not get one slot this year compared to some who will get 2 or 3 slots...would disagree that we are anywhere close to a happy medium.

Diversity and growth is good and should be a goal, but we should not exclude or deny our roots ( or friends who helped us grow tall) to achieve it.!

i had a dream the other nite that they blocked off a part of the main stage field- while they were ripping it down sunday--..and set up a smaller stage in front of that barracade for local djs, music performers, spoken word performance, and artists...it was a good dream.

I still really think should have a local stage that helps local artists be known in the international community at this festival...now that this is festival is quite well known internationally....

                • Without roots to draw moisture from the earths bountiful loins,
The once fully erect enlightened society,
                  Will trudge toward semi-ness,
                  The tree will become flaccid and withered;
                  Eventually becoming a pleasure-less appendage,
Free of joy, and void of chakra crotch explosions.
                  • This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
                    "....chakra crotch explosions."

Is that like....a wet dream or something?
                    • "Free of joy, and void of chakra crotch explosions."

I laughed out OJ through my nose when i read this....ow!

                      omg too funny.
                      • I find it funny that no one has posted on this topic for awhile... since Matt's last comments when i laughed OJ out my nose....I gotta bet goin with Jimmy that he will give me the keys to his new 2009 Toyota Tundra if 300 tix LESS are sold this year than last...due to local talent playing scumbhala and not shambles.... ;) (*snicker*)

I have to say what i feel..i CANNOT WAIT for the new club to open up so i can watch one of my friends play a friday or a saturday ---who have WAY more talent than some out of town trainwreckin Djs who are headlining the local club these days....BOR---ED..Da club is as slow as molasses or a hike up to 1st choice at whitewater these days....And locals would WAY rather pay $5 cover and spend $25 at the bar than a $20 cover and and $10 at the bar.......no wonder no one goes out till midnite :(

                        • ....very soon the locals will be REPRESENTED (finally) the tables will turn! YAY!\ (3 moè months of no local arts supported..and that is IT--phew!
                          • Sorry..that was an bit of an exaggeration..but seriously..it is time to blaance the SCALE---and be locals WILL BE treated with RESPECT ! :)
                            • woo..that was drunken last post...???....haha...i am serosuly happy change is a comin' though.
                              • You should get a gang together and go from camp to camp tellin folk how locals need respect or else.!. May I suggest you all have torches so as to envoke angry mobs of yesteryear? Old skool is all the rage these days.
                                • No i should just continue to speak my mind on a public forum i think, instead. ;)
Longboards and plastic banana boards are back in ragin' style lately..it is true.
                                  • My experience was one of deep respect for the locals who in return where very friendly and giving to us poor Americans in our group. Perhaps this was not the norm?
                                    • i think you misunderstand my rant digital........kootenay locals are very helpful to strangers and especially to friends and acquaintances when it comes to upbuilding one another.......usually.\
My point is directed to people who have all the means to give a lot more upcoming and veteran local kootenay artists power, and more chances to shine.......instead of themselves shining say 3 or 4 times during a music festival that all locals should and really do deserve a chance to play....it is their dream and hope to partake as well.....These people have alots of really talented artists under their banner(s) and they have a tonne of local support..... but unfortunately - usually do not give a lot of these talented local upcoming and veteran artists a chance to play good slots...or at even at all.....

                                      • I deeply respect and support the local talent at Shambhala.
First and foremost because in the early years many of them worked year after year for no pay...not just playing music, but clearing land, building stages, decorating, cleaning up, and a lot more. For many this was out of devotion for the small but passionate electronic music scene, and the desire to showcase the beauty, friendliness and talent that the Kootenays has to offer.

Some of them have since retired from working at the festival but still enjoy attending. Some have moved on to other things entirely. Others moved on to paid positions and gigs, and many continue to volunteer year after year.

This is a non-commercial festival, with no corporate sponsorship. It has always relied heavily on volunteers to make it happen. In the early years it was especially reliant on local support.

When I watch a local Kootenay DJ or visual artist at Shambhala, I listen to and enjoy their craft, but I'm really there to show my deepest gratitude and appreciation for helping to build this festival from nothing. Without their contributions going back as far as 11 years, this festival would not be what it is today.

I would like to see more local talent (especially the old-skool ones) given the opportunity to perform at the festival as a "thank-you" for their past generous contributions, and to show visitors that we are proud of our local talent, of which we are blessed to have so much of.

(P.S. Thanks again Suplex for all the construction you did in the VIP zone last year!)
                                        • You are very welcome! I will be up there again this year helping out of course//// hopefully with youand with stacy shaak.
Even though i am jaded about the fact that my friends are not playing -or has a slot when everyone is packing up to go home......i am not just going to give up on my dreams of trying to help shambhala be the most amazing experience Anyone could ever have........

Maybe ya´ll that are doubting what "trance level" will be emitting from our Labyrinth stage on the Sat.,should see if you can find a few mixes from Blue Lunar Monkey,Dj Solar,Dj Sasquatch,Jay Micheal,etc..........***B-4***........... you begin telling me what you may be expecting by way of music.the more familiar you are with this scene, the more you´ll be able to recognize more of it´s players´,as the psy-scene is partly based in multi-national/international musicians and personalities, from all accross the globe.

Other scene´s have their hero´s and hero-worship`(everyone needs a reason.....),but,alot of thier influence is based on sales, and number´s of record/cd unit´s "pushed" in a year.Coupled by a alcohol-soaked financial belt wrapped tightly around it in most town´s and cities,.........it leaves alot to be desired.

There are a handful of very good festivals upcoming with a whole SLEW of dj´s and live-acts´in SPECIFIC genre´s of music, playing nothing but ONE genre for the full festival, which do you choose??

Is your choice going to be based on the actual TRACKS they´ll be playing,or......the WAY they´ll be playing thier set,or.......how long thier mixes will be,or.........how popular their name is amongst worldwide accolades,or..............what they played the last time you saw them,or........what parties they´ve played worldwide,or..........if you´d even RECOGNIZE them,if you actually SAW them face 2 face,or.........would any of that even matter!!!!????

*********-IF: the reason you like them is because of their superior mixing ability/unique style????************

OR-are you just looking to couple "yer money´s worth" with "optimum quality for your buck",(when paying for the festival that represents 6 different genres of different tempo-electronic music),or are you gonna pay for JUST the type of music you want to hear,.....and ONLY that.

Lett´s HOPE yer choice is including the time taken to become PERSONALLY FAMILIAR with the various genre´s of music, before ASSUMING we can be AT ALL familiar with a WHOLE scene,worldwide......................unless you become an active, knowledgable PART of those particular scene´s,.........no?!

I was just hoping for some great live trance acts, like in the past. People jaming their OWN tunes, people like Jaia, Shpongle, Pixil (*) Dj's are fine hun but they leave alot to be desired IMO when it comes to the raw power of playing their own live and original music. I think if anything people are disappointed as it appears the budget for the stage MUST have been drastically cut if they are going from acts like Shpongle to mostly local dj's. Locals are great! But dont really hold the interest that living legend live acts like Hallucinogen and Ticon can when it comes to festival season. I am sure you will rock the woods but I hope that future years will see more respect in the form of a bigger budget for the trance stage.

it has been commented before that it was difficult to book large trance acts this year due to boom happening around the same time.

there are only 4 local kootenay acts playing the trance stage this year of the total 26 slots posted :(.......3 of these artists are playing on OTHER stages as well during the festival/// :(....

so these locals are people that WANT to play and were not asked?

it seems the vision is a little blurry.

contrary to convenient belief, this party would NOT have gone on without them and will not be even close to the same experience without their devotion to bringing music and energy.

so i just took a look at the entire lineup and i guess i also have to say:

                                                      what the hell happened?!?!

seeing the shambala lineup used to make me wonder what i was gonna see this year and so excited to discover who these people wee and what they would be dropping. it seems this year that im gonna have to really hunt for my surprises as ive already seen 90 percent of these artists! no disrespect to anyone, but shambles was always known for digging up artists that hadnt blown up yet.

now all of a sudden were following? werent we in front?
